If you haven't read this series or any books by Jana Deleon, you are missing out on a great read. I think I smiled and laughed my way through the whole book. If you are looking for a light hearted, funny romantic mystery, you simply must read the series. Start with Louisianna Longshot to get the whole back story, followed by Lethal Bayou Beauty and then Swamp Sniper before reading Swamp Team 3. The clues are strung out as the plot moves along unraveling the mystery at the same time the characters discover! So you are constantly eager to turn the next page. The comical antics of Gertie, Ida Belle and Fortune are always the perfect combination to make you laugh and have. Good time reading. The romance is just enough to have you routing for Fortune and Carter to get together without all the sex scenes that some authors use to fill pages but detract from the plot. All in all, the perfect combination. My only complaint is that I wanted more, so write fast!Is it worth buying? Absolutely! I paid full price the first day it came out and loved it. Can't wait for the next one!

I have been reading this series starting with book 1. I have enjoyed the story and all the troubles the Swamp Team 3 get themselves in. There are three major characters that make up the TEAM. Fortune is undercover as a librarian in small town of Sinful, Louisiana. She is CIA agent. She becomes involved with Ida Belle & Gertie, two senior citizens who together solve crimes & murders. There is a race every Sunday between two churches to see who gets to the diner first for "banana pudding". Of course, there is the local sheriff , Carter, who tries to keep up with the "Swamp Team 3" Romance maybe brewing between Fortune & Carter. Fortune would have to relocate if found out her true identity . I laughed at the humor throughout the books I've read. The story continues book to book. Love reading a book that makes me smile.
I simply cannot stop reading this series. Thankfully there were 10 out when I discovered the series. The first book, Louisiana Long, shot was free. It hooked me. The treasures in the series are the two older ladies, Ida Belle and Gertie. They are in their 70's, and they were counterintelligence in VietNam. They are a hoot! Ida Belle is a crack shot and has her thumb on everything going on in their small Bayou town! Gertie, bless her heart, needs glasses and is a little out of shape. But she keeps up and is a valuable member of the team. But of-course the real muscle is Fortune. She is a CIA assassin hiding from a terrorist. She is learning to love, have friends, and belong to a tight community. And she is not going to let anyone endanger the town she is coming to love. Great Series.
Book 4 finds Fortune Redding getting ready for a not-a-date date with Deputy Carter LeBlanc when she gets word someone tried to burn her friend Allie’s house down. The date gets put on hold while Carter has to investigate. As always, Fortune aggravates him/helps him by investigating on her own, aided by Ida Belle and Gertie, the “Geritol Mafia.”
Fortune’s not a “girly-girl,” (after all, she’s a CIA assassin), so the opening scenes with Ida and Gertie trying to help her get ready for the date are laugh-out-loud funny, and that humor is carried out through the rest of the book. I like the dialog in this book, both Fortune’s internal arguments, and the communication between all of the characters.
I also like how the author brings everyone up to speed on past history quickly, but in a light-handed way. You could read these out of order and not feel lost. There is a nice touch of romance, but the mystery never takes a back seat, another plus. And there’s a fair amount of action to keep things interesting. I am glad I have more books to catch up on in this series.
Swamp Team 3 is a great play on words to describe Fortune and her 2 geriatric sidekicks. That team of ladies are always seeming to get themselves into quite a bit of trouble. Only this time is seems that Fortune has put Carter in quite the uncomfortable position. Due to her escapades and the fact that Carter had asked her out on a date, Carter is put in a position where he must either misrepresent information he was given or Fortune could be arrested for murder.
Little does he know that she is a CIA in hiding and would not actually be arrested. Fortune would be ok but Carter's career would be ruined. Fortunately for swamp team three events outside of their control have given them a great opportunity to save both Carter and Fortune. They just have to solve a murder.
This is a wonderful addition to an already favorite series. I am excited to see where things go with Carter and Fortune. I am also eager to know when he will learn of her true identity. This is a series that will always keep you entertained and the mystery is well done with twists and turns. You never truly know what is going to happen next. I highly recommend!
Still has the humor, although not as much and not as sharp as the first book, but I'm starting to get bored with the formula writing. The story has stalled and I keep saying to myself "just get on with it". Either have Ahmad show up or Carter and Fortune get on with their relationship at better than a snail's pace, or something....anything! These books are not brain breakers and you'll easily figure out who the culprit is, but the situations and their results are pretty much formula from book to book only changing the circumstance of which core character has the problem, so the books are becoming more of a brain freeze. I really do enjoy the characters and the humor but unless there's a serious forward movement in the story I just may, regrettably, call it quits for this series.
